Facial Rejuvenation with Dermal Fillers or BOTOX® Injections

Fortunately, the field of cosmetic medicine offers options to address a wide range of problems. For those with milder forms of facial wrinkling, BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel or Radiesse®, offer exceptional results with no down time.

BOTOX® Cosmetic
Unlike the dermal fillers discussed below, BOTOX® Cosmetic does not "fill out" wrinkles. Instead, it works by preventing the small, repetitive muscle movements that cause deep lines on the forehead and across the brows. When these muscles remain relaxed, the skin over them appears smooth and unlined, resulting in a fresher, more youthful appearance.
Administration of BOTOX® Cosmetic is simple and takes about 10 minutes. Using an extremely fine needle, Dr. Mata will perform a series of injections at strategic points along the brow and forehead. Discomfort is minimal and may be prevented with the use of a numbing agent prior to the injections. Mild redness or irritation at the injection site is the most common side effect and should disappear quickly.
The effects of the BOTOX® serum are immediate, although visible results may not be noticeable for a day or so. A single BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment can leave the brow smooth for up to four months. At this point, the treatment can be repeated to maintain results, or the effects will wear off and the forehead will gradually return to its normal appearance.
Dermal Fillers
In order to smooth out wrinkles and deep creases, dermal fillers restore volume beneath the skin in places where it has diminished. There are several types of fillers, made from a variety of natural or synthetic substances, and they last for varying amounts of time. Dr. Mata offers both Radiesse® and JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel to his patients.
Radiesse®
Radiesse® is a water-based gel containing tiny beads of calcium, which can be injected into deep creases, areas of fine wrinkling, or places where volume has been diminished. It is very safe and highly effective. Because the product is entirely synthetic and the substances used are biocompatible (identical to substances found naturally in the body), it poses no risk of allergic reaction.
When Radiesse® is injected, the effects are immediate. As it begins to break down over time, it actually stimulates the production of collagen, causing the body to restore the volume that was temporarily replaced by the product. Consequently, the results of Radiesse® can last up to a year and sometimes longer.
JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel
From the creators of BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is a dermal filler made with hyaluronic acid, the same biocompatible substance found in Restylane®. This super-smooth filler is particularly effective in treating nasolabial folds (the creases that extend from the corners of the mouth to the nose), but can be used to treat any moderate to severe creases and lines on the face.
The results of treatment with JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel can be seen immediately and last for up to a year.
